Team Culture and Individual Personal Profiling
What makes a good team into a great team?

It's a question often pondered upon just as much within the dental environment as it is on the football field. You work hard to put a team together only to find that, instead of the team being greater than the sum of its parts, it is actually less. Who or what is to blame when things don't work out?

Is it due to personality clashes? Is there too much of one skill and not enough of another? Is management weak or indeed an overpowering one? Even in a small dental team the number of permutations can be immense, and if you don't know why the team isn't working then attempting to fix it becomes a matter of trial and error.

The biggest problem with teams is a lack of self-awareness. People don't know how other members of the team see them. In the past the solution may have been to bring in expensive consultants, if the business was large enough to afford it, or to reach for self-help management books, in the hope of finding a solution.

However, now it is possible to use a well and truly tested, professional means of assessing personal characteristics, to identify the current dynamics of the team compared to your ideal team. If you still evaluate people subjectively then Personal Profiling is definitely for you.
